The colorful, vibrant, and bustling city of Jaipur has captivated travelers for centuries, and was considered one of the earliest planned cities of India. In 1876, during the visit of Prince Albert (Queen Elizabeth’s husband), the city was painted pink to welcome him. The color represents hospitality, and has since given Jaipur the nickname, the Pink City.
As the center of trade, culture, and politics of Northern India, Jaipur has served as a hub for artisans, merchants, and scholars. It has been the home of royalty, with intact castles that have influenced the design of modern hotels, such as Raffles Jaipur. Once the residence of the Maharaja of Jaipur, Rambagh Palace (Taj) hotel is known as the “Jewel of Jaipur”, and The City Palace (Chandra Mahal Suites) is part of the living palace of the Maharaja of Jaipur. These and many other hotels are immaculate, as if they had just been built yesterday. Like living museums, one can spend hours wandering through the palace grounds, learning about the history from before, during, and after colonization.
Today, Jaipur is a UNESCO World Heritage City, and reflects a blend of tradition and modernity. The abundance of gardens and wildlife adds to the appeal for travelers and has drawn affluent residents, businesses, and luxury hotel brands like Aman (Amanbagh).
